“This crisis presents a historic opportunity for investing in Senegal”

The Senegalese Government has invited all Canary Island business leaders to the institutional and trade seminars to be held on 1st April to inform them about the advantages of investing in one of the most stable democracies in Africa, with an annual economic growth of around 5%, and where there is still much to do. “The Canary Islands is the meeting point between Europe and Africa; the present crisis can be turned into a historic opportunity to expand (because others are doing so already) and Senegal is the gateway to the continent”, Bernard Lonis says.

Creation of CICASEN

Cicasen logoThe Canaries-Senegalese Circle was the initiative of a group of leading businessmen from the Canary Islands and Senegal, who joined forces for the common goal of publicly defending the interests of the trade relations in both regions.

The legal status of the Canaries-Senegalese Circle is a not-for-profit association with a “national” scope, consisting of individuals and legal entities that share a common interest and a concern for the socioeconomic environment. The Circle is totally independent from any other influences and its activities are funded exclusively through its members’ dues.

The Canaries-Senegalese Circle undertakes activities with a long-term perspective, creating and sharing ideas and opinions and prompting debates and an examination of subjects of general interest from a business point of view.

The Circle’s deliberation processes and the generation of ideas and opinions takes place at its Committees and are set out in documents. These Committees operate in a very particular manner, since the Circle’s members participate directly in the drafting of the documents which are then edited, and they are the result of teamwork and a final consensus.

Through its cooperation programmes with society the Circle also promotes dialogue with the various political and social institutions in order to enhance the role of business in bilateral relations.
